From the album "Band on the Trot" named after the wings album "Band on the Run" they even made it to the charts with their version of `Save all your kisses for me´
Sheer unadultarated camp.
Not Hyldas best era, but at least she did it age 73!
HYLDA BAKER & ARTHUR MULLARD - 'You're The One That I Want' / Save Your Kisses For Me' (Pye 7N46121, 1978)
ARTHUR MULLARD & HYLDA BAKER - 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' / 'Sweet Kind Of Guy' (Pye 7N46139, 1978). 1978 was the year of a popular musical called 'Grease'. a Fifties-influenced flick starring a couple of quite famous people. 'You're The One That I Want', sung by aforementioned famous people, was one of the tunes lifted from the soundtrack as a single, and it predictably sold by the cartload.
Meanwhile, in a parallel universe somewhere beyond Lancashire, veteran sitcom stars Hylda Baker (aet. 72!) and Arthur Mullard (65) were busy laying down their own version, which reached a very respectable No.22 in the UK singles chart and prompted the duo's appearance on 'Top of the Pops'. Sadly, the performance was not a success: both singers looked a bit lost and things were perhaps compounded by poor Hylda having already had Alzheimer's disease for several years. Sales of the record fell away sharply thereafter, but a second single was nevertheless issued, democratically switching the order of the artist credits on the label! It appears to have sold very poorly.
Filed firmly under 'Novelty' rather than 'Pop', both singles are great fun - and if you're planning a club or disco night, they provide an excellent way to annoy all the right people.
